Various Artists
Tiny Angels - Songs of Christmas Joy
Bramsar Records

Out of the winter wonderland of Round Rock, Texas comes this compilation CD containing songs of the season.

This offering boasts ten songs from fourteen songwriters in three countries (USA, Canada, and Sweden). I have never heard of any of these artists before, but showcasing up-and-coming writers and performers was the idea that Bramsar Records had in mind when collecting music for this CD. Half of this CD offers country tunes and others are pop and Christian, but all are Holiday in nature. Most of these songs won’t become standards, but there are a few solid tracks on Tiny Angels.

The title track is a heart-warming country tune with the religious aspect of the season in mind. “Snow flakes are falling like tiny angels, and the voices are singing a joyful noel.” Its well performed by Alan Johnson.

Other notables on this album are “Little Red Guitar,” which deals with a gift from a relative who has passed on. “Santa’s Christmas Party” is a great little dance tune about the festivities that happen once Santa has completed his duty on Christmas night. The Allhelgona Motet Choir of the Allhelgona Church in Lund, Sweden beautifully performs the Mattias Lundgren-penned song called “Morning Has Come.” The last track is a more humorous offering, called “Christmas for my Missus,” where a grown man seeks out the big guy to help pick out the perfect present for his wife. Not such a crazy idea if you ask me.

These are all new songs, not the same old “Rudolph the Red Nosed-Sleigh Bells Ring-Let It Snow” melody you are used to hearing year in and year out. If you are a fan of Christmas tunes and are on the look-out for some good songs you’ve never heard before, Tiny Angels is a good place to start.
